On the 12th August Waihao hostedthe Te Ana Ngāi Tahu Māori Rock Art Centre in the construction of a traditional manu tukutuku (kite) at the Waihao marae. This event was open to all whānau and interested members of the community and demonstrated traditional skills and materials in the art of kite making. A great community turn out made the day very enjoyable We thank the Creative NZ Communities Scheme for their assistance in this event.

Twenty two of the Waihao Kaumātua came together for a lunch in Ashburton. This has been the biggest gathering for some time and reports back indicate that everyone had a great time. Looking to the future, it is hoped that such great turn outs continue

The rūnanga had purchased a supply of Pipi Mā doll. These Te Reo speaking dolls have been distributed to all our registered tamariki under 5. The office has received positive feedback from whānau who say the dolls are good for memory and pronunciation.

The annual Waimate Matariki Festival was held on 23rd June and once again was a great success with the local schools of the district coming together for this event. The rūnanga catered lunch, a kai cook for the 500 students
