Papatipu Rūnanga are the beating hearts of our iwi. Over nearly three decades since Settlement, we have achieved much to be proud of — flourishing hapū enterprises, wharenui that beautifully weave our inheritance with the frontiers of innovation, and the warmth of uri returning home, filling our whare with breath and hope.
Yet, all of us carry bold aspirations still. We see further frontiers to chart as we grow our mana motuhake and give life to the promise of mō tātou, ā, mō kā uri ā muri ake nei. As an iwi, we have made strong progress in economic development, institutional design, and government engagement — but all of that work ultimately depends on something deeper: a vibrant collective life that people want to be part of.
Waihao Rūnanga warmly invites you to a dedicated wānanga for whānau, to be held the day before Hui-ā-Tau:

This wānanga, Ngā Puna Waiariki — the many springs of vitality that feed our collective waters — will bring together Papatipu leaders to reflect on how we strengthen our tribal movement across Ngāi Tahu: from the critical few who hold the rope to the committed many who feel the call to act for the collective good.
The focus of the day is to jointly develop a shared action plan that can be presented at Hui-ā-Tau — one that builds on the kōrero, commitments, and plans already made, creating practical and concrete outcomes to strengthen our tribal participation, connection, and belonging.
The wānanga will be facilitated by Sacha McMeeking, one of Waihao’s uri, who was invited to facilitate as hau kāinga.
A background paper — Energising Our Tribal Movement: From the Critical Few to the Committed Many — is available to set out the framing for our kōrero and some reflective questions to help spark thinking in advance.
